The Practice
Many of the practice's clients live between countries: Portuguese nationals abroad, descendants of Portuguese emigrants, foreigners who have chosen Portugal, and families with assets in more than one jurisdiction.
Their questions rarely fit within a single area of law. An inheritance almost always involves tax and registration; a marriage celebrated abroad may have consequences for nationality and matrimonial property. Each matter is therefore handled as a whole, including its tax implications.
The practice is deliberately small: every matter is followed personally, from the first contact to its conclusion.
Law degree from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon, with a period of study at the University of Southampton under the Erasmus programme. A lawyer from a family with a long tradition in the legal profession and the judiciary.
Practice Areas
Estates connected to more than one country: applicable law under the EU Succession Regulation, declarations of heirship, estate division and wills, including the tax treatment of the inheritance.
Marriage of foreign nationals in Portugal, registration in Portugal of marriages celebrated abroad, prenuptial agreements and matrimonial property regimes, divorce and parental responsibilities.
Attribution and acquisition of Portuguese nationality, including through marriage or civil partnership and through descent. Preparation and follow-up of applications before the Central Registry Office in Lisbon.
Residence permit for investment (Golden Visa) and other residence permits. Legal and tax framework for moving to Portugal.
Purchase and sale of property, title and land registry checks, promissory contracts and deeds, with the tax implications of each transaction.
Across all practice areas: analysis of the tax consequences in Portugal and coordination with obligations in the client's country of residence.
Network of colleagues. When a matter requires in-depth specialist input, the practice works alongside colleagues and partner firms in Portugal and abroad, while the client keeps a single point of contact.
